Advancing Agricultural Self-Reliance and Farmer Welfare

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, conducted a high-level meeting with senior Ministry officials to ensure the prompt execution of the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission and the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana. Emphasizing the importance of these initiatives, Shri Chouhan issued directives for their time-bound implementation to maximize benefits for farmers across India.

Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission: A Push for Productivity

The Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission aims to bolster India’s pulse production by expanding the cultivated area from 275 lakh hectares to 310 lakh hectares, increasing production from 242 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes, and improving productivity to 1,130 kg per hectare by 2030–31. With a financial outlay of ₹11,440 crore over six years, the mission will create district-level clusters with active support from state governments. Shri Chouhan directed officials to coordinate with nodal officers from relevant states to ensure seamless and timely implementation, fostering both agricultural growth and employment opportunities.

Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: A Holistic Approach

Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 11, 2025, at Pusa, New Delhi, the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana integrates 36 sub-schemes across 11 ministries to drive agricultural advancement in 100 aspirational districts. Approved by the Union Cabinet on July 16, 2025, the scheme will be implemented over six years with an annual budget of ₹24,000 crore. To ensure its effective rollout, Shri Chouhan announced plans to convene a meeting with ministers and secretaries from the 11 involved ministries, alongside NITI Aayog officials, to streamline coordination and deliver maximum benefits to farmers at the grassroots level.

Strategic Coordination for Effective Implementation

During the meeting, Shri Chouhan emphasized the need for robust collaboration with state governments and ministries to achieve the objectives of both initiatives. For the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission, he instructed officials to organize meetings with state nodal officers to facilitate cluster formation and ensure timely progress. Similarly, for the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, he stressed grassroots-level execution to directly benefit farmers, with a focus on inter-ministerial synergy to align efforts across the 100 targeted districts.

A Vision for Agricultural Prosperity

Both initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to achieving agricultural self-reliance and enhancing farmer welfare. The Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission is poised to strengthen India’s pulse production, reducing dependency on imports, while the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana aims to transform agriculture in aspirational districts through integrated and innovative approaches. With Shri Chouhan’s leadership, these programs are set to drive sustainable growth and empower farmers nationwide.
