MWL Highlights Urgency of Sudan’s Humanitarian Crisis

The Muslim World League has voiced its serious alarm over the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan. Citing recent United Nations assessments, the MWL pointed to the rapid deterioration of food security in multiple regions, where famine has taken hold once again within a year.

Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who leads the MWL and chairs the Organization of Muslim Scholars, shared the organization’s stance in a public statement issued from Makkah. He emphasized the severity of the situation in cities such as El-Fasher and Kadugli, which have been flagged in the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report.

Call for International Action and Accountability

Dr. Al-Issa urged immediate and coordinated action from the global community. He pointed out that the repeated declaration of famine in Sudan should serve as a wake-up call to intensify humanitarian efforts and ensure protection for vulnerable communities.

He underscored the need for strong measures against those responsible for attacks on civilians, insisting on full compliance with international humanitarian law. The MWL also called on all parties to honor the commitments made in the Jeddah Declaration, which stresses civilian protection and unimpeded delivery of life-saving aid.
