Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will undertake a two-day visit to Punjab from November 26 to 27, 2025. During the visit, he will engage directly with farmers and beneficiaries of rural development programmes, including MGNREGA. He will also meet office bearers and representatives of institutions connected with these initiatives.

Focus on Agricultural Practices and Rural Empowerment

As the Minister responsible for advancing agricultural development and strengthening rural communities, Shri Chouhan will use the visit to review ongoing schemes and provide guidance on future plans. The visit is aligned with efforts aimed at enhancing farming systems, improving village-level development, and supporting farmers’ welfare.

Engagements in Moga District

According to the schedule, Shri Chouhan will reach Amritsar on the night of November 26 and travel the next morning to Ransih Kalan village in Moga district. The village is noted for its environmentally conscious practices, crop residue management, and active community involvement. The Minister will hold discussions with farmers and residents on environmental protection, local challenges in agriculture, natural resource conservation, crop diversification, and approaches to improving farm income. He will also observe innovations introduced through community efforts.

Meetings with MGNREGA Beneficiaries

Following the Moga visit, the Minister will proceed to the K.L. Saigal Memorial Hall in Jalandhar to meet MGNREGA beneficiaries. The interaction will cover the programme’s contribution to employment opportunities, livelihood support, and rural infrastructure creation. The session will also explore ways to enhance the programme’s effectiveness and its alignment with other development initiatives.

Review of Rural Development Schemes

Shri Chouhan will later preside over a review meeting at the District Administrative Complex in Jalandhar with officials from central and state departments. The meeting will assess progress under various rural development schemes related to housing, roads, livelihoods, self-help groups, and skill building. Discussions will address ongoing challenges and consider measures to improve coordination and implementation.

After the review, the Minister will hold a press interaction to outline the Central Government’s priorities for agriculture and rural communities. He will also provide updates on policy developments and explain the focus areas for Punjab under upcoming programmes.

Visit to Central Potato Research Institute

In the latter part of the day, Shri Chouhan will visit the ICAR–Central Potato Research Institute at Badshahpur in Jalandhar. He will meet farmers and agricultural scientists to discuss the institute’s role in supporting farmers through high-quality potato seeds, improved crop varieties, and technical training. The center has long contributed to productivity and value addition in agriculture across Punjab and northern India.

At the conclusion of the day’s engagements, the Minister will return to Amritsar Airport for departure to New Delhi.

Strengthening Field-Level Feedback Mechanisms

The visit aims to enhance communication between the Central Government and rural communities in Punjab, including farmers and MGNREGA workers. Feedback gathered from the field is expected to support refinements in national agricultural and rural development policies, with an emphasis on aligning schemes to local needs.

In recent months, Shri Chouhan has travelled to several states to interact directly with farmers and village residents. These engagements are intended to ensure that policy decisions reflect on-ground realities and the expectations of rural communities. His approach prioritizes firsthand insights into the conditions faced by farmers and villagers, along with their innovations and concerns.

Through such interactions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and the Ministry of Rural Development aim to promote a more inclusive and participatory model of rural progress. The emphasis is on community input, stronger local institutions, and sustainable development supported by innovation. The Punjab visit forms part of this ongoing national effort to enhance farm profitability, strengthen rural self-reliance, and support the broader rural economy.
