Boosting India’s Livestock and Dairy Sector
On October 11, 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated livestock and dairy projects worth ₹947 crore and laid the foundation stone for an additional project valued at ₹219 crore in New Delhi. These initiatives, part of a broader agricultural investment package, align with the government’s vision of strengthening rural livelihoods and achieving self-reliance in agriculture and allied sectors.
Key Initiatives Under PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana
Alongside the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, these projects aim to empower farmers through diversification. In his address, PM Modi emphasized the critical role of livestock, fisheries, and allied activities, stating:
“The PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is also focusing on our livestock. More than 125 crore vaccines have been administered free of cost to protect animals from diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease. Under the PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, campaigns related to animal health will also be launched at the local level.”
He further highlighted the need for diversification, noting, “Where farming isn’t possible, animal husbandry and fisheries will need to be promoted. This also empowers small farmers and landless families.”
