Overview

The Central Government has cleared a major procurement plan for farmers engaged in the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds in four key states. The move is aligned with the Kharif 2025-26 season, covering Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The total approved procurement is valued at more than Rs 15,000 crore, aimed at ensuring remunerative returns to growers.

Procurement Under PSS and PM-AASHA

The approval was finalized through a high-level virtual review involving ministers and senior officials. The procurement process will be executed under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), among other departmental mechanisms. A budget allocation of Rs 147.76 crore has been set aside for procurement operations through state agencies.

State-wise Procurement Details

Telangana

In Telangana, approval has been granted for the purchase of 4,430 tonnes of moong valued at Rs 38.44 crore under PSS. The state will witness full procurement of urad, while soybean procurement has been capped at 25 percent of production.

Maharashtra

The procurement plan for Maharashtra is comparatively larger in scale. It includes 33,000 tonnes of moong at a cost of Rs 289.34 crore, 3,25,680 tonnes of urad valued at Rs 2,540.30 crore and 18,50,700 tonnes of soybean with an expenditure of Rs 9,860.53 crore.

Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, soybean procurement will take place under the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), covering 22,21,632 tonnes. The financial implication of this approval stands at Rs 1,775.53 crore.

Expected Outcome

The sanctioned procurements are expected to benefit lakhs of farming households across the concerned states. The intervention aims to stabilize market returns for growers of pulses and oilseeds and support them during the marketing season.
