Emphasis on Strengthened Controls and Digital Security

Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar chaired a high-level review meeting focused on addressing revenue leakages within the Department of Posts. He called for a multi-layered, technology-supported and incentive-based approach to reduce revenue losses across the postal network.

He recommended targeted field audits of high-volume Post Offices that handle more than 10,000, 5,000 and 1,000 transactions per day. He also instructed that weighing machines be integrated with postal IT systems to remove manual discrepancies and prevent under-invoicing.

To enhance security, the Union Minister of State directed the implementation of dynamic barcoding along with prepaid booking alerts aimed at monitoring irregular activities and preventing the introduction of articles and parcels into the delivery chain at intermediate points.

According to the Union Minister of State, the focus is on improving operational controls, upgrading digital security systems and fostering a workforce that ensures that every rupee is properly accounted for.

Review of Postal Savings Bank Framework

The Union Minister of State reviewed the digital and financial security framework of the Postal Savings Bank and called for stronger safeguards through biometric and OTP-based authentication for officials.

He instructed quicker Aadhaar and mobile number seeding of accounts and encouraged broader use of digital passbooks to enhance transparency, reduce manual errors and prevent fraudulent activities.
