IPPB EPFO MoU Exchange

India Post and EPFO Join Hands to Simplify Pensioner Services

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), fully owned by the Government of India, has formalised a partnership with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to offer Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services directly at the doorsteps of EPFO pensioners. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the 73rd Foundation Day celebrations of EPFO.

Free, Doorstep Support for EPS’95 Pensioners

The collaboration leverages IPPB’s vast nationwide reach, which includes over 1.65 lakh Post Offices and more than 3 lakh postal workers. Equipped with smartphone-based biometric devices, postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks will now facilitate submission of life certificates using either Aadhaar face recognition or fingerprint authentication right at the pensioner’s residence.

Under this arrangement, EPFO will cover the entire cost of issuing Digital Life Certificates, making the service entirely free for beneficiaries under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.

Convenience and Accessibility at the Core

The service marks a significant boost in ease of living for senior citizens, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Pensioners no longer need to visit banks or EPFO offices to submit traditional paper-based certificates. All they need to do is contact their local postman or visit a nearby Post Office to initiate the process by providing their Aadhaar and pension details. Upon successful authentication, a confirmation SMS is sent, and the DLC can be accessed online the next day via the Jeevan Pramaan portal.

IPPB’s Pivotal Role in Digital Financial Inclusion

Launched in September 2018, IPPB has been instrumental in promoting inclusive financial services using India’s deep-rooted postal networks. With a customer base of 11 crore, IPPB offers doorstep banking in 13 Indian languages, covering 5.57 lakh villages and towns. Its operations align with the principles of India Stack, aiming to facilitate paperless, presence-less, and cashless banking across the nation.

Supporting Digital India Vision

This initiative supports the Government of India’s goals under the Digital India and Ease of Living programmes. By combining technology with an extensive field workforce, the service helps ensure dignified access and financial independence for more than a million EPFO pensioners.
