214th SPARSH Outreach Programme Empowers Defence Pensioners in Kerala

 

Event Overview

The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Chennai, hosted the 214th SPARSH Outreach Programme on 16th October 2025 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The event, inaugurated by the Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, saw participation from over 1,100 defence veterans and family pensioners from Thiruvananthapuram and surrounding districts.

Key Highlights of the Programme

Financial Support for Pensioners

During the programme, cheques worth Rs 40 lakh were distributed by the Governor to five defence pensioners and family pensioners whose grievances were successfully resolved through the SPARSH system. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Defence Accounts Department to address pension-related issues promptly.

Honouring Veer Naris

In a heartfelt gesture, the Governor honoured six Veer Naris, referring to them as “Veer Mathas” in recognition of the supreme sacrifices made by their husbands in the line of duty. This tribute highlighted the programme’s focus on supporting the families of fallen heroes.

Remarks from Dignitaries

In his address, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar praised the sacrifices of the Veer Naris and commended the Defence Accounts Department for establishing SPARSH Service Centres in 12 of Kerala’s 14 districts. He urged the department to extend coverage to Idukki and Malappuram to achieve 100% coverage across the state.

Shri Raj Kumar Arora, Controller General of Defence Accounts, New Delhi, emphasized the nationwide reach of SPARSH outreach programmes, designed to resolve grievances and deliver pension-related services directly to pensioners. He highlighted the department’s achievement in disbursing One Rank One Pension (OROP) 3 arrears worth over Rs 1,200 crore to more than 20 lakh defence pensioners and family pensioners in just 15 days.

Support Infrastructure

The event showcased the robust support system established by CDA Chennai, including 30 help desks set up in collaboration with CGDA headquarters, PCDA (Pensions) Prayagraj, eight Record Offices, four banks, and other agencies. These help desks are dedicated to assisting defence pensioners and their families in resolving SPARSH-related issues efficiently.

The programme was graced by Shri Raj Kumar Arora, Controller General of Defence Accounts, New Delhi, and Shri T. Jayaseelan, Controller of Defence Accounts, Chennai, reflecting the significance of the initiative in supporting Kerala’s defence community.
