In a significant stride towards Aatmanirbharta in defence, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated an Advanced Night Vision factory to the nation in Nimmaluru, Andhra Pradesh, on October 16, 2025. This inauguration forms part of multiple development projects worth approximately Rs 13,430 crore that the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for, inaugurated, and dedicated in Kurnool.
PM’s Address: Elevating Defence Capabilities and Exports
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized that the factory will significantly enhance India’s ability to manufacture night vision equipment, missile sensors, and drone guard systems. He highlighted that this facility will propel India’s defence exports to new heights.
The PM referenced the global recognition of India’s indigenous weapon systems during Operation Sindoor, underscoring their proven effectiveness on the international stage.
Kurnool as India’s Emerging Drone Hub
Expressing satisfaction with the Andhra Pradesh government’s vision, the Prime Minister noted the resolve to develop Kurnool as India’s drone hub. He stated that the drone industry will spawn several new sectors tied to futuristic technologies in Kurnool and throughout Andhra Pradesh.
Citing the pivotal role of drones in Operation Sindoor, PM Modi affirmed that Kurnool is poised to become a national powerhouse in the drone sector in the coming years, fostering innovation and economic growth.
Facility Overview: Bharat Electronics Limited’s Strategic Investment
Established by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) with an investment of approximately Rs 360 crore, the state-of-the-art facility spans 50.54 acres in Nimmaluru, Krishna District, featuring a built-up area of 36,000 sqm.
Key Production Focus
The plant is designed to meet the Armed Forces’ requirements and support export demands for:
- Advanced Night Vision Devices
- Infrared Seekers for indigenously developed missiles
- Drone Guard Systems to counter rogue drones, UAVs, and aerial threats
Advanced Infrastructure and Future-Ready Design
Equipped with flexible production lines, the facility can adapt to evolving needs and incorporate future product lines alongside cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. It promises to generate substantial skilled employment over the next 2-3 years, reinforcing regional development and self-reliance in defence technology.
