Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh Showcases India’s Defence Self-Reliance and Inspires Youth at Symbiosis Convocation

Operation Sindoor: A Symbol of India’s Indigenous Defence Prowess

In a stirring address at the convocation ceremony of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University in Pune on October 16, 2025, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh hailed “Operation Sindoor” as a shining example of India’s burgeoning indigenous capabilities. He attributed this success to the government’s unwavering commitment to building a self-reliant defence manufacturing ecosystem.

From Dependency to Self-Reliance: The Journey Under PM Modi’s Leadership

Shri Rajnath Singh reflected on the initial challenges faced when the government embarked on its mission to achieve defence self-reliance. “It seemed daunting at first, but under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s guidance, we left no stone unturned to boost domestic manufacturing,” he said. This determination has started yielding remarkable results.

He emphasized that post-independence, India had long relied on foreign imports for weapons due to a lack of political will and supportive policies. “We resolved to change this by ensuring our soldiers are equipped with Made-in-India arms. The world saw our forces’ valor in Operation Sindoor, where they accomplished their goals using a substantial amount of indigenous equipment,” the Raksha Mantri stated.

Impressive Growth in Defence Production and Future Targets

Acknowledging the vital role of the youth in this transformation, Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted the sector’s growth over the past decade. Annual defence production has surged from Rs 46,000 crore to a record Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with the private sector contributing approximately Rs 33,000 crore.

He expressed strong confidence in meeting ambitious goals: “We aim to reach Rs 3 lakh crore in defence manufacturing and Rs 50,000 crore in exports by 2029.”

Beyond Degrees: Becoming Creators, Innovators, and Nation-Builders

Urging students to transcend mere academic success, the Raksha Mantri encouraged them to become creators, innovators, and active contributors to India’s development. “True success isn’t just about earning degrees—it’s about applying knowledge to benefit society,” he advised.

The Power of Skills in a Changing World

Shri Rajnath Singh stressed the shift from knowledge-centric to skill-oriented evaluation in today’s world. “We’re past the age of ‘What do you know?’ Now, it’s ‘What can you do?’ Skills bridge the gap between learning and practical application,” he explained.

Embracing Technology and AI Without Fear

Addressing concerns about technological advancements, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Raksha Mantri reassured the audience: “AI won’t replace humans; rather, those who master AI will outpace those who don’t.” He cautioned that technology should serve as a tool, not a replacement for human values, ethics, and sensitivity.

He also touched on the pitfalls of social media and societal pressures, advising youth to pursue their own aspirations instead of succumbing to comparisons.

Amrit Kaal: Shaping Careers and the Nation’s Destiny

As India enters its Amrit Kaal with the vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, Shri Rajnath Singh noted that the students are stepping into a pivotal phase of their lives. “The coming 20-25 years will not only define your careers but also influence the nation’s future. Let your ambitions drive India’s transformation,” he inspired.

Inauguration of School of Defence and Aerospace Technology

The event also featured the inauguration of the School of Defence and Aerospace Technology by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis. State ministers and the university’s Vice-Chancellor were in attendance.
