Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology; Minister of State for Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired a high-level review meeting at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences, to assess progress under the ‘Mission Mausam’ initiative.

The Minister urged officials to accelerate the project timelines, noting that it is a flagship programme announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The meeting included Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, along with senior officials and scientists from the Ministry and IMD. Participants presented detailed updates on ongoing procurement, infrastructure readiness, and the accelerated installation schedules of observational and radar systems being deployed nationwide.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that Mission Mausam, dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister, represents a significant enhancement of India’s weather forecasting and climate monitoring capabilities. He stressed that timely execution of procurement and installation activities is essential for strengthening early warning systems, improving disaster preparedness, and providing accurate, location-specific forecasts.

The Minister instructed IMD and Ministry officials to maintain transparency and efficiency in procurement processes while aligning them with international standards. He also emphasized fast-tracking installations in priority regions and implementing advanced tracking mechanisms to monitor progress at the field level.

Dr. Singh expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between IMD and the Ministry would ensure that Mission Mausam’s targets are met within the planned timelines.
