CBIC’s Special Campaign 5.0 Focuses on Cleanliness, E-Waste, and Heritage Sites

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and its offices across the country actively contributed to Special Campaign 5.0 held from 2 to 31 October 2025. The initiative prioritised waste disposal, digitisation of records, and cleanliness both in offices and public spaces.

E-Waste Disposal Activity

E-Waste and Record Disposal

In a significant push towards responsible e-waste handling, the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN) Faridabad and CGST Faridabad properly disposed outdated electronics including 178 monitors, 70 CPUs, 88 printers, and 7 air conditioners. Adhering to E-Waste Management Rules 2022, the initiative also drew revenue of about Rs. 5.29 lakh from 22,728 kilograms of scrap, freeing up nearly 43,000 square feet of space.

Cleanliness and Social Outreach

CBIC organised 1,200 cleanliness activities across multiple states and locations, including heritage monuments and beaches. From Sarkhej Roza in Ahmedabad and Purana Qila in Delhi to Sinhagad Fort near Pune, officers carried out extensive cleaning to preserve national heritage.

Beach Cleaning Drive

Community-Focused Drives

Customs and GST teams engaged in multiple public outreach events such as cyclothons and rallies promoting Swachhata. In addition, around 15 plantation drives were held to enhance the surroundings of office premises. Residential complexes and office guest houses across cities including Mumbai, Vizag, and Tuticorin were cleaned, with an incinerator set up at Calicut Staff Quarters.

Plantation Drive

Drugs and Contraband Disposal

In an effort to eliminate harmful substances, approximately 250 kg of narcotics including heroin, cocaine, and ganja, along with 26 lakh foreign-origin cigarettes and e-cigarettes worth Rs. 1,011 crore, were destroyed. These actions reinforced CBIC’s commitment to public safety.

Digital and Physical Record Management

Across 606 offices, CBIC reviewed over 41,000 files, out of which more than 23,000 physical records were weeded out to optimise space and operational efficiency. Additionally, 1,054 e-files were closed during the drive.

Cleanliness Drive

Empowering Citizens Through Grievance Redressal

CBIC retained its position as the top performer in grievance redressal under CPGRAMS for the third time, reflecting its focus on transparency and accountability under the motto “Championing Clarity, Credibility and Care in Grievance Redressal.”

The success of Special Campaign 5.0 was amplified on social media, with 250 posts promoting cleanliness and eco-friendly initiatives. CBIC looks forward to sustaining this momentum beyond the campaign period.
