The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced a modification to the tie breaking criteria applied in the Combined Medical Services Examination 2025. The corrigendum was issued in New Delhi on 6 November 2025, under the file number A.12011/01/2025-CHS-I.

As per the earlier rule published in the Gazette of India on 20 August 2025, when two candidates had the same marks in the relevant stage of evaluation, the younger candidate in age was to be ranked higher in the merit list. This instruction was listed under Para (B)(ii) of the addendum relating to the tie breaking principle.

Revised Provision in Tie Breaking Criteria

The corrigendum now replaces the earlier criterion. The revised rule states that if two candidates secure equal marks at the specified stage, the candidate who is senior in age will be placed higher in rank. This change directly reverses the previously stated preference for younger candidates.

The new reading of Point (B)(ii) is now: “If the marks at (i) above are equal, the candidate senior in age will be ranked higher.”

Administrative Authority

The corrigendum notification has been issued under the authority of Joint Secretary Nikhil Gajraj.

With this update, candidates preparing for the Combined Medical Services Examination 2025 are advised to take note of the revised ranking approach in case of equal scoring outcomes.
