FAO introduces its first virtual HR colleague

In a significant step towards strengthening its digital work environment, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has introduced a new Artificial Intelligence based virtual HR colleague called “Ms FAO AI”. The initiative is intended to support staff members across different regions with continuous access to human resource information and guidance.

Round-the-clock multilingual assistance

The virtual colleague is accessible to employees around the world at any time. It is designed to respond in multiple languages and assist users in making well-informed decisions on HR matters. It allows staff to access updated guidance and navigate procedures in a more reliable and inclusive way.

Earlier launch of HR CertusCare chatbot

Earlier during the year, FAO introduced HR CertusCare, an AI chatbot created to simplify access to human resource information. The service offers quick responses on subjects such as social security, health coverage, performance assessments, workplace learning and recruitment. It is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

Encouraging interaction and learning

Both Ms FAO AI and HR CertusCare improve continuously as they interact with staff. For this reason, FAO leadership encouraged employees to explore the tools freely and ask varied questions to help the systems learn and evolve. This aligns with the organization’s ongoing approach to innovation and refinement.

Focus on people-centered innovation

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu highlighted that while innovation is central to improving systems, it must always remain rooted in human values. He reiterated that technology should support workers rather than replace them. He described the virtual tools as part of efforts to modernize processes and thinking while ensuring staff remain at the core of organizational progress.

Foundation for future integration

The new tools are part of a broader effort to improve staff support, reduce repetitive tasks and streamline HR workflows. These developments are expected to contribute towards building a more efficient, inclusive and responsive organization.
