Taiwanese authorities have announced the full lifting of import restriction measures on Japanese food products, a decision welcomed by Japan to support reconstruction in Fukushima.

On November 22, Taiwanese authorities announced the removal of all import restriction measures on Japanese food products. These restrictions had been introduced following the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 and had been under review.

Prior to the announcement, Japan had requested the early withdrawal of the measures on multiple occasions, citing scientific evidence.

Japan’s Response

Japan has welcomed the decision by the Taiwanese authorities to lift the restrictions, noting that the move will support the reconstruction of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
