President of India Addresses Parliament on Samvidhan Divas

Leaders From Both Houses Attend the Ceremony in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan
President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, addressed Members of both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan as the nation marked the 11th Samvidhan Divas. Vice-President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan also spoke at the event. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, Union Ministers, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh and Members of Parliament were present.
Lok Sabha Speaker Highlights Constitutional Ideals
In his Welcome Address in the Central Hall, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla stated that India’s Constitution has shaped the country’s cultural, linguistic and traditional diversity into a cohesive national identity rooted in democratic values. He said the Constitution reflects the nation’s civilisational heritage, democratic character and shared aspirations.
Shri Birla paid homage to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, and all Members of the Constituent Assembly. He noted that their dedication and foresight provided India with a Constitution ensuring justice, equality, fraternity and dignity for every citizen.
He pointed to the historical significance of the Central Hall, describing it as the venue where extensive debates and deliberations crafted the constitutional framework and articulated the will of the people. He said that over seven decades, the Constitution has guided the nation in enacting progressive laws, promoting social justice, encouraging inclusive development and evolving into one of the world’s most vibrant and resilient democracies.
Call for Commitment to Constitutional Values
The Speaker observed that the initial words of the Preamble, “We, the People of India,” represent the collective resolve of 140 crore citizens and reinforce the unity of the nation. He said the national vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047 can be realized when citizens uphold the Constitution’s ideals and values.
Shri Birla encouraged all citizens, particularly the youth, to renew their commitment to constitutional duties, prioritise national interest and contribute to creating an India known globally for development, justice, unity, fraternity and human dignity.
He expressed appreciation for the presence of the dignitaries, adding that their participation reaffirmed the nation’s shared commitment to constitutional principles.
Release of Translated Versions of the Constitution
As part of the programme, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu digitally released translated versions of the Constitution of India in nine Indian languages, including Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia and Assamese. She also led the dignitaries in a collective reading of the Preamble, underscoring the nation’s continued faith in constitutional values and its dedication to democratic principles.
