Lok Sabha Speaker: Democracy Fuels India Investment Boom

Global investors are turning their attention to India, drawn by the country’s solid democratic framework that ensures stability and continuity, according to Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla.

Speaking at the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, he pointed out how India’s economy and technology sectors have grown impressively under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s guidance, positioning the nation to become a major player on the world stage.

Government Push for Business Growth

The central government remains dedicated to creating conditions that support businesses through streamlined regulations and fewer administrative obstacles, allowing industries to expand freely. Shri Birla urged companies to increase spending on research and development to meet international benchmarks, adding that the Prime Minister has promised full governmental support to such initiatives, paving the way for India to lead in innovative fields.

These observations came during the event themed “INDIA@100: An Age of a New Dawn,” which gathered prominent figures from trade and industry to discuss the country’s progress as it nears the 100th year of independence.

Shri Birla described the Bharat Chamber of Commerce, originally known as the Marwari Chamber of Commerce, as a role model for similar bodies nationwide due to its focus on societal welfare and early adoption of corporate social responsibility practices. He applauded its 125 years of steadfast contribution to national development amid challenging global conditions, crediting the foresight and determination of Indian entrepreneurs for the ongoing social and economic changes.

Far from being just a governing structure, democracy forms an integral part of India’s cultural and social fabric. Reliable institutions guarantee consistent policies, which in turn build trust among investors and support prolonged economic advancement.

The Speaker also noted India’s growing status as a centre for innovation and scientific research, driven by robust partnerships between public entities and private enterprises in technology and development work.
