UPSC’s Century Mark Recognised for Merit and Integrity

Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla described the Union Public Service Commission as a key pillar of nation building grounded in merit and integrity. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Union Public Service Commission’s Shatabdi Sammelan in New Delhi, he reflected on the Commission’s 100-year journey as a significant phase in India’s democratic and administrative progression.

In his keynote address, Shri Birla said the institution, founded on principles of merit, transparency, and ethical values, has motivated generations of young Indians to pursue public service. He stated that as India moves towards becoming a developed and inclusive nation by 2047, the Commission’s role becomes increasingly important. He noted that in an era shaped by the digital environment, artificial intelligence, and global transitions, UPSC has adapted its systems and established new standards of good governance by making its selection processes more advanced, scientific, and transparent.

He said that by ensuring equal opportunities for individuals from varied social and geographical backgrounds, the Commission has reinforced the country’s democratic framework through merit, honesty, and transparency. He added that the institution’s century-long journey represents not only administrative progress but also a lasting record of its contribution to governance, development, and public service delivery nationwide. According to him, this has enhanced public confidence in the administrative mechanisms of the country.

He further said that over the last 100 years, the Commission has opened avenues for millions of young people to contribute to society through their knowledge, dedication, and ethical conduct. Shri Birla emphasised that UPSC has showcased India’s diverse character within the administrative system by giving opportunities to individuals representing varied social, linguistic, and regional backgrounds.

He expressed confidence that the centenary year would bring renewed motivation, direction, and commitment to the Commission in the years ahead, supporting the creation of a generation dedicated to nation building. He said the institution will continue to develop public servants who will serve as drivers of progress in shaping a developed, innovative, and globally forward-looking India.

On the occasion, Shri Birla conveyed his greetings and congratulations to former and current chairpersons, members, officers, and all associated personnel of the Commission.

Dr Jitendra Singh, Union MoS (Ind. Charge) Science & Technology; Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, and Atomic Energy and Space, along with other dignitaries, attended the event. Dr Ajay Kumar, Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission, delivered the welcome remarks.
