Ministry of Mines Leads with Impactful Results in Special Campaign 5.0
Launched on October 2, 2025, the Ministry of Mines has made significant strides in the first two weeks of Special Campaign 5.0, themed around the ‘E-Waste Collection Drive.’ This campaign underscores the Ministry’s dedication to sustainability, cleanliness, and responsible resource management, aligning with national goals for a cleaner and greener future.
Nationwide Cleanliness and Space Optimization Efforts
The Ministry has successfully conducted 290 cleanliness campaigns across India, nearly achieving its target of 292 sites. These efforts have fostered a healthier and more organized work environment. Through meticulous record management and the disposal of obsolete materials, the Ministry has reclaimed 13,283 square feet of office space, enhancing operational efficiency and promoting a clutter-free workspace.
E-Waste Collection Drive: A Step Toward Sustainability
A key highlight of the campaign is the domestic e-waste recycling initiative, led by the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC). Spanning 58 locations nationwide, the drive has collected 702.55 kg of e-waste, generating ₹4.5 lakh through responsible disposal. This initiative not only promotes recycling but also raises awareness about the importance of proper e-waste management among employees and partner organizations.
Innovative and Community-Driven Initiatives
The Ministry’s organizations have embraced creativity and community engagement to amplify the campaign’s impact:
- Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL): MECL has transformed metal scrap into artistic installations, including a bike, a giraffe, and a tools stand. These ‘Waste-to-Art’ creations highlight the potential for creative reuse and inspire sustainable practices.
- Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM): IBM has beautified office gardens and pathways using waste materials. At Devapur Limestone Mines in Telangana, innovative art pieces made from scrap were installed, while a compost pit was constructed at a government school in Morad to promote environmental education.
- Geological Survey of India (GSI): GSI organized a free medical health check-up camp for staff and contractual workers, emphasizing the campaign’s focus on health and well-being alongside environmental goals.
Driving a Circular Economy and Sustainable Future
Through these efforts, the Ministry of Mines is setting a benchmark for cleanliness, innovative waste management, and sustainability. Special Campaign 5.0 reflects the Ministry’s commitment to transforming waste into valuable resources and fostering a circular economy. By integrating art, community engagement, and environmental awareness, the Ministry is paving the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable India.
