A countrywide drive to help pensioners submit life certificates digitally kicks off this month, with a major event scheduled in the national capital tomorrow. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh will participate in a large-scale camp organised by State Bank of India as part of the fourth edition of this annual initiative.
Nationwide Push for Digital Pensioner Services
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has launched the Digital Life Certificate Campaign 4.0, running throughout November. This effort supports the government’s broader goals of digital inclusion and simpler public services for senior citizens.
Over the next four weeks, teams will visit more than two thousand urban and rural centres to assist around two crore pensioners. The main feature this year remains the use of facial recognition linked to Aadhaar, allowing individuals to complete the process from home or nearby centres without fingerprint scanners.
Focus on Vulnerable Groups
Extra attention is being paid to those above eighty years and persons with disabilities. Through the India Post Payments Bank, trained staff will visit residences to generate certificates on the spot. This doorstep facility removes the need for travel and long queues.
Minister’s Visit to Delhi Event
On 3rd November, Dr Jitendra Singh, who handles personnel and pensions among other portfolios, will attend the SBI Mega Camp at NDMC Convention Centre. He is expected to speak with pensioners using the face-scan method and observe live demonstrations.
Banks, postal services, the Unique Identification Authority, and technology units will showcase their roles. Officers from railways, defence accounts, and retiree groups will also be present to coordinate efforts.
Prime Minister’s Earlier Endorsement
Last year, the Prime Minister spoke about such digital tools during his radio programme and on Constitution Day. He noted how online life certificates have reduced paperwork and travel for elderly citizens in villages and small towns.
Centralised Tracking and Collaboration
All activities are tracked live through a portal developed by the National Informatics Centre. This system shows progress by each agency and helps resolve issues quickly.
Several public and private banks, along with post offices, have set up dedicated counters. Pensioner welfare bodies are spreading awareness through local meetings and helplines.
The month-long campaign reflects ongoing efforts to make government processes smoother and more accessible, especially for those who spent decades in public service.
