High-Level Meeting at Krishi Bhawan

Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level meeting on October 16, 2025, at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, to evaluate the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and outline future action plans. The meeting saw the participation of Rural Development Secretary Shri Shailesh Singh and other senior officials.

State-Wise Progress and Challenges

During the meeting, officials provided a detailed state-wise update on PMGSY’s implementation. They highlighted that while progress in most regions was on track, certain hilly and disaster-affected areas faced temporary delays due to natural calamities. The Minister emphasized the need to address these challenges promptly to ensure timely completion of projects.

Special Focus on Northeast and LWE-Affected Regions

A key discussion point was the acceleration of rural development in the northeastern states and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas, including Chhattisgarh. Shri Chouhan directed officials to intensify efforts in these regions and announced a dedicated review meeting to be held soon in the Northeast. This meeting will involve Chief Ministers and state representatives, covering a wide range of rural development schemes, including PMGSY, MGNREGA, Skill Development, and the National Rural Livelihood Mission, to ensure effective and time-bound implementation.

PMGSY’s Transformative Impact

Shri Chouhan lauded PMGSY as a transformative initiative that has reshaped rural India by improving connectivity and fostering development. “This scheme has changed both the condition and direction of our villages,” he stated, emphasizing its role in driving inclusive growth and eliminating extremism in LWE-affected areas through enhanced road infrastructure.

25th Anniversary Celebrations

As PMGSY approaches its 25th anniversary in December 2025, plans for nationwide celebrations were discussed. The Minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive report showcasing the scheme’s impact over the past 25 years, highlighting its contributions to rural connectivity and socio-economic progress.

Call for Quality and Timely Execution

In his concluding remarks, Shri Chouhan urged officials to accelerate the pace of work, resolve coordination issues with state governments, and ensure that all road projects adhere to high-quality standards. He stressed the importance of completing projects within stipulated timelines to deliver durable infrastructure that supports sustainable rural growth.
