PRESIDENT OF INDIA PARTICIPATES IN THE CELEBRATIONS OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ANGOLA’S INDEPENDENCE

President Droupadi Murmu participated in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence at the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. The event, held at the Praça da República in Luanda, featured a grand ceremony showcasing Angola’s rich military and cultural traditions. President Murmu joined President Lourenço and other dignitaries in witnessing the colourful proceedings, symbolising the spirit of national pride and unity.

President Murmu’s Visit to Botswana Marks a Historic Milestone

In the final leg of her two-nation Africa visit, President Droupadi Murmu arrived at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Botswana. This visit represents the first-ever State Visit by an Indian Head of State to Botswana, marking a significant moment in the diplomatic history between the two countries.

Upon her arrival, President Murmu was accorded a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour. In a gesture underscoring the strong and friendly relations between India and Botswana, she was warmly received by His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, the President of Botswana. The ceremonial reception reflected the mutual respect and deepening partnership between the two nations.

India-Africa Engagement Continues to Deepen

The President’s visit to Angola and Botswana reinforces India’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships across Africa through high-level exchanges and cooperation in various sectors. Both Angola and Botswana are key partners in India’s outreach to Africa, and the visit highlights the shared values of democracy, development, and mutual respect that define India’s engagement with the continent.

President Murmu’s presence at Angola’s Independence celebrations and her historic State Visit to Botswana further underline India’s enduring ties with African nations, built on the foundation of friendship, collaboration, and shared progress.
