Jayant Chaudhary Flags Off 23 Participants Representing India in Chinese Taipei
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship organised a send-off ceremony for India’s contingent participating in the WorldSkills Asia Competition 2025, scheduled from 27 to 29 November 2025 in Chinese Taipei. This marks the first time India is taking part in the World Skills Asia platform, marking an important step in the country’s global skills journey.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of State (I/C) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Jayant Chaudhary, as the Chief Guest, along with Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Debashree Mukherjee. Gyan Bhushan, Senior Economic Advisor at MSDE, and actor Sudesh Berry were also present and offered words of encouragement to the competitors.
The continental competition will host more than 500 participants across 38 skill categories from nearly 40 Asian member and guest nations. The Indian delegation, led by the National Skill Development Corporation, includes 23 competitors and 21 experts who will compete in 21 skills, representing India on an international platform alongside skilled young professionals from across Asia.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jayant Chaudhary said that the young participants reflect India’s growing capabilities as a global skills leader. He noted that the competitors have undergone rigorous training supported by experts, Sector Skill Councils, the Ministry, and industry partners. He stated that the government remains committed to fostering talent that can contribute to the goal of becoming the Skill Capital of the World.
The candidates represent a wide range of traditional and emerging skills, including digital and IT technologies, mobile robotics, mechatronics, CNC milling, web development, automotive repair, fashion technology, graphic design, beauty therapy, and other high-demand skills shaping the future of work.
The representatives for WorldSkills Asia 2025 were selected through a multi-tier national competition process anchored by the India Skills Competition 2024, the country’s largest skill championship organised by the National Skill Development Corporation. Medal winners from the national competition earned the opportunity to represent India at global World Skills events.
Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said that India’s debut at World Skills Asia is a significant step in the national skilling journey. She added that ongoing efforts to strengthen training and assessment frameworks have helped young participants meet global standards. She encouraged the team to give their best, maintain high levels of excellence, and aim to bring recognition to the country.
The 23 candidates were selected after national-level evaluations that included industry experts and globally benchmarked assessments. Over the past five months, they have undergone intensive industry-led training supported by institutions such as JK Cement, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, LTA Academy of Beauty, Mahindra University, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, and Iraj Evolution Design Company Limited. These partners provided advanced labs, simulators, expert guidance, and real-world training environments to enhance technical accuracy, discipline, and competitiveness.
To prepare the team further, WorldSkills India, under the National Skill Development Corporation, conducted a four-day team building and readiness programme from 21 to 24 November. The programme included psychometric assessments, grooming and communication sessions, neurotherapy, mindfulness practices, nutrition guidance, art and music therapy, and travel preparation workshops. These sessions aimed to build technical confidence, mental resilience, teamwork, and a sense of national pride.
