Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jayant Chaudhary Inaugurate Skill India Centre in Baraut

Centre established to expand skilling access in Baghpat district
Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, inaugurated the Skill India Centre at Ch. Kehar Singh Divya Public School in Baraut, Baghpat. The Centre has been set up by the National Skill Development Corporation in partnership with Redington Foundation, marking an expansion of last-mile skilling opportunities for rural youth and women in Uttar Pradesh.
Under this initiative, NSDC and Redington Foundation plan to train around 600 candidates, primarily underprivileged youth and women from Baraut and Chhaprauli blocks in Baghpat district. The Baraut facility will operate as the main training hub, supported by a spoke centre in Chhaprauli to broaden outreach. The courses are designed around the electronics and IT-ITeS sectors to meet local demand for skilled workers and align with national efforts to build a digitally capable workforce.
Ministers highlight the importance of emerging skills
Speaking at the event, Ashwini Vaishnaw underscored the need for a workforce suited to evolving industry requirements. He said the initiative strengthens the mission of creating a technologically capable workforce that can support India’s digital and electronics landscape. He noted that delivering quality skilling to rural districts enhances aspirations, expands opportunities, and drives social transformation, adding that the adoption of AI-enabled tools is helping local learners prepare for future job roles.
Jayant Chaudhary also addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of skills in national development. He said the inauguration demonstrates the government’s commitment to extending opportunities to youth in rural and underserved areas. He added that the Centre will serve as a gateway for new possibilities for young people and that skilling contributes to dignity, mobility, and confidence while enabling local talent to grow in emerging sectors.
During the programme, both ministers interacted with trainees, visited the training labs, and encouraged learners to adopt new-age skills that support long-term employability.
Training outcomes and ongoing efforts
The collaboration between NSDC and Redington Foundation has already shown results, with 72 candidates from Baghpat, trained under the Foundation’s CSR initiative in partnership with NSDC, securing placements in various organizations.
The inauguration of the Skill India Centre represents a step toward creating an inclusive skilling ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh, enabling young people to gain industry-relevant skills and advance toward financial independence.
