CHIEF MINISTER’S PROGRAM AND INFRASTRUCTURE INAUGURATIONS
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today distributed cheques worth ₹10,000 each to more than 25,000 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Campaign in Nagaon district. Among them, 19,628 women are from rural areas and 6,957 are from urban areas. Addressing a public meeting at Nehrubali in Nagaon town on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that this capital provided in the first phase will pave the way for women-led development in the state.
Dr. Sarma said that the rural economy will be strengthened through the development of women entrepreneurs in various fields, primarily agriculture, animal husbandry, handloom, and handicrafts, via this campaign. He mentioned that just as the patriotism of Birangona Mula Gabharu and Shahid Kanaklata inspires everyone, the current women power can be a strong example in the field of Assam’s self-reliant economy. In today’s event, more than 27,000 people collectively performed the song ‘Manuhe Manuhar Baabe’ by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
CM Sarma also inaugurated several important projects in the district today at a cost of ₹25 crore. He inaugurated the Gaurav Path road from Nagaon Circuit House Chariali to Panigaon Chariali, constructed at a cost of ₹5.20 crore. Following this, he inaugurated a multi-story new market complex built at a cost of over ₹8.73 crore. This four-story market complex, equipped with all facilities, will provide customers with an experience of shopping in a clean and tidy environment. The Chief Minister today also inaugurated a modern swimming pool constructed at a cost of over ₹7.13 crore on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Nagaon. He also inaugurated the newly constructed office building of the Joint Director of Health Services on Matiram Bora Path in the district.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma mentioned that many important issues will be raised in the upcoming Assam Assembly session. He said that many crucial issues, including the preservation of Satras (Vaishnavite monasteries), the law against polygamy, and the distribution of land *pattas* (deeds) to tea garden workers, will be discussed in the upcoming Assembly session.
EDUCATION MINISTER INAUGURATES TIWA LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu today formally inaugurated the use of the Tiwa language as a medium of instruction at Dabarghat Primary School in Jagiroad, Morigaon district. He also unveiled the Tiwa language textbooks. Under the National Education Policy 2020, provisions have been made for imparting education in various languages in primary schools. Accordingly, Tiwa language instruction will begin in 62 primary schools in the state in the initial phase. Teachers for the Tiwa language have already been appointed in some schools. The Education Minister stated that language teachers would be appointed in the remaining schools gradually. Dr. Pegu mentioned that this initiative marks the beginning of a new era for primary education in the mother tongue in the tribal areas of Assam. The MLA and Minister of Jagiroad, Pijush Hazarika, the Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council, Jiban Konwar, along with representatives of the Tiwa Sahitya Sabha and Tiwa organizations were present at today’s event.
AHSEC HIGHER SECONDARY EXAMINATION UPDATES
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) today started the process of filling up online forms for students appearing for the Higher Secondary Final Year Examination to be held in February-March next year. This online process will conclude on November 20. The AHSEC has informed through a notice that there will be no provision for offline form filling for this year’s Higher Secondary Final Examination. The heads of all educational institutions have been instructed to ensure the completion of the form filling process for all students within the stipulated time. Students will have to pay the prescribed examination fee, but students whose parents’ annual income is ₹2 lakh or less will be exempted from the examination fee as per government policy.

DEATH SENTENCE IN BARPETA MURDER CASE
The Sessions Judge Court in Barpeta district today sentenced a person named Hrishab Das, who was convicted in a murder case, to death. A case was filed against Hrishab Das, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Barpeta town, on October 13, 2023, for the murder of his wife and daughter. … Today, the bench of Sessions Judge Dipak Thakuria sentenced the convict to death. It is noteworthy that this is the first death sentence declared since the formation of Barpeta district. In this regard, advocate Khitap Bhushan Das said:
BJP LAUNCHES ‘NYAY YATRA’ FOR ZUBEEN GARG
The BJP has launched a ‘Nyay Yatra’ (Justice March) across the state to demand justice for the people’s artist Zubeen Garg through the court. … State BJP President Dilip Saikia called for a speedy judicial inquiry into the mysterious death of the artist and urged the special investigation team of Assam Police to file a strong chargesheet so that no culprit can escape. … The party will take out this ‘Nyay Yatra’ in every district headquarters till October 30.
ICC WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CRICKET
In the ICC Women’s World Cup Cricket Tournament today, Australia faced England in a match held at the Holkar Stadium. England, after being invited to bat first, set a target of 245 runs for Australia to win. The team scored 244 runs, losing 9 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. For the team, Tammy Beaumont scored the maximum of 78 runs, and Alice Capsey scored 38 runs. Annabel Sutherland took 3 wickets for Australia, while Sophie Molineux and Ashleigh Gardner took two wickets each.
OBITUARY
Ditimoni Bora, Vice Principal and Professor of English Department at Nandanath Saikia College, Titabor, a resident of Malowali, Jorhat, passed away today at Jorhat Medical College Hospital. She was 56 years old at the time of her death.
