Heavy rainfall triggered a flash flood in the Yaga area of Keyi Panyor district in Arunachal Pradesh. According to official information, the flood damaged a retaining wall under construction near the NEEPCO project site and caused extensive destruction in the surrounding area. The fast-flowing water damaged at least 18 residential quarters, while seven workers have been reported missing. The India Meteorological Department recorded 72.8 mm of rainfall in the area during the past 24 hours, with intense rain between 6 am and 9 am contributing to the flood. Authorities have issued alerts for several Assam districts, including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Sonitpur. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed officials to remain vigilant, monitor the situation continuously and keep disaster response agencies prepared for deployment if required.
Authorities have directed officials to closely monitor vulnerable and disaster-prone areas and assess the situation regularly. Residents living in low-lying and flood-affected regions have been advised to remain alert and move to safer locations if necessary. The public has been cautioned against entering floodwaters or travelling through flooded areas during the flood period. People have also been advised not to use temporary or weakly constructed routes for movement.
