Government prioritizes education and healthcare reforms

The Chief Minister highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has advanced from the 21st to the 5th position in the national education index due to the state government’s initiatives. He emphasized replacing outdated medical equipment with modern technology to enhance healthcare services, bringing them on par with AIIMS Delhi. He noted that while doctors in the state are highly skilled, obsolete machines hinder efficiency, and the government is ensuring the installation of advanced medical equipment statewide.

Clarification on Hamirpur Medical College project

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu clarified that Hamirpur Medical College was sanctioned by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, refuting claims by BJP MP Anurag Thakur. He stated that Rs. 190 crore was approved for the project during Dr. Singh’s tenure, and the current state government has added Rs. 400 crore to complete the construction. He added that the previous BJP government only laid the foundation stone without further progress. The Chief Minister also criticized former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for neglecting Hamirpur district and excluding its MLAs from the Cabinet.

Boost to sports and tourism infrastructure in Nadaun

Highlighting sports development, the Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh’s first indoor stadium, costing Rs. 120 crore, is under construction in Nadaun. The complex will include facilities for 17 sports disciplines, a swimming pool, and a shooting range. Additional land will be acquired for football and hockey stadiums. A rafting complex worth Rs. 59 crore and a wellness centre and water park costing Rs. 79 crore are also being developed to promote tourism and boost the local economy.

Support for rural economy and welfare schemes

At Karsai, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a Primary Health Centre to be built at a cost of Rs. 2.04 crore, which will initially operate from a rented building. He also announced that staff appointments will follow soon. The government has introduced a Minimum Support Price for naturally grown turmeric, wheat, maize, and barley, while increasing MGNREGA wages by Rs. 80. He reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to restoring the Old Pension Scheme for government employees, despite financial restrictions from the Centre.

Public participation and acknowledgment of local leaders

During the event, students of Government Senior Secondary School Choru contributed Rs. 57,000 from their personal savings to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The Chief Minister also honoured national medalist Arnab Saini, his coach Sukh Dev, and other athletes. MLA Captain Ranjit Singh lauded the CM’s leadership, noting equitable development across Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that the state government’s anti-corruption stance has disrupted backdoor practices and assured that the issue of Agniveer recruitment will be discussed in the upcoming Assembly session.

Former MLAs Kuldeep Singh Pathania and Manjeet Dogra, along with several district and cooperative leaders, attended the programme, underscoring collective efforts for the development of Hamirpur and its surrounding regions.
