Festive Ambiance and Lakshmi Puja
The auspicious occasion of Diwali, coinciding with Ashwin Amavasya, filled Pune with a lively atmosphere. The Swarajyache Shiledar Pratishthan organized a cleanliness drive at the Veer Baji Pasalkar Smarak in Panshet, followed by a Diwali celebration. The event paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj by lighting lamps, with devotees marking the occasion with conch blowing. A large number of villagers participated, highlighting the community’s commitment to preserving heritage sites.
Financial Aid for Farmers
In response to crop damage caused by excessive rainfall in Yavatmal, the government approved financial assistance of ₹648.15 crore for farmers with affected land up to three hectares. Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Makarand Jadhav Patil announced the decision, with a government resolution issued to facilitate the aid. Additionally, approximately ₹8,139 crore has been allocated to support farmers during the Kharif season.
Waste Management Initiative
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been piloting a waste collection program in Vishrantinagar and Bhawani Peth, where household waste is collected at building entrances or society gates. Due to its success, the PMC plans to expand this initiative to other areas. Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, Sandeep Kadam, noted that the program addresses issues of littering by ensuring coordinated waste collection, preventing garbage from piling up on roadsides.
Property Tax Collection Drive
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation intensified its property tax collection campaign, taking strict action against defaulters. So far, 27 properties have been seized, with notices issued to those in arrears. Assistant Commissioner Avinash Shinde stated that the campaign will continue rigorously throughout the next month to ensure compliance.
Stamp Duty Campaign
The Pune Stamp Duty Department launched a special drive to resolve 1,874 pending cases, scheduled to run from October 27 to November 2, 2025. This initiative aims to streamline processes and address outstanding stamp duty issues efficiently.
Lok Kalyan Bhushan Award
The 23rd Lok Kalyan Bhushan Award was presented to Mammatai Sapkal by the Lok Kalyan Pratishthan. Former Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Mahesh Zhagade, praised Mammatai for continuing the legacy of serving the underprivileged with dedication, in the spirit of Sindhutai Sapkal.
Fire Incidents
A fire broke out in an electronics shop in Wakad, destroying 35 to 40 bicycles, possibly due to a battery explosion. Between yesterday afternoon and this morning, Pune and its surrounding areas reported 25 fire incidents, three of which were caused by firecrackers, underscoring the need for caution during festive celebrations.
