Siaha, Mizoram, India – November 8, 2025: The District Magistrate of Siaha has issued a public safety order following the confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs across various localities of Siaha town. Laboratory testing by the Diseases Investigation Laboratory, Aizawl, and NERDDL Guwahati confirmed ASF as the cause of the reported pig deaths.
Infected Zone Declared
Siaha town has officially been declared an “infected area” due to the ongoing spread of African Swine Fever. Despite earlier preventive measures, many pigs in the area continue to remain at high risk, and therefore, strict containment measures have now been imposed to control the spread of the disease across the district.
Key Restrictions Announced
Movement of Pigs and Pig Products
- Movement of pigs and pig products out of Siaha town is strictly prohibited.
- Pigs being brought into any part of Siaha town must first undergo ASF Rapid Test screening within a 2 km radius of the town before transportation.
- Veterinary teams will conduct mandatory rapid testing, and pig owners are required to cooperate fully.
Rules for Pig Owners
- Only healthy pigs may be reared within Siaha town. Pig owners must obtain a “Soundness Certificate” issued by Veterinary Officers.
- Sick pigs must not be transported and must be culled immediately under guidance from Animal Husbandry and Veterinary staff.
- All cases of pig death or suspected ASF must be reported to the A.H. & Veterinary Department without delay.
Ban on Import From Other Regions
- Import of pigs, piglets, pork products, and pig feed from other districts or states into Siaha District is banned until further notice.
Legal Enforcement
Violations of the order will be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The order is issued under the powers granted to the District Magistrate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and remains effective for two months from the date of issuance.
