The Government of Mizoram has been honoured with a Special Award for its exemplary traffic management system at the 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference 2025 held from 7 to 9 November in Gurugram, Haryana. The award was presented by the Union Minister Manohar Lal and Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Mizoram delegation comprised Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA); Pu Jacob Lalawmpuia, Director, UD&PA; and officers from the Town and Country Planning wing. The UMI Conference is organised annually by the Institute of Urban Transport (India) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Town and Country Planning Wing of the UD&PA Department made a detailed presentation on 16 October 2025 through video and PowerPoint formats, highlighting effective traffic rule implementation, public compliance, and innovations such as the “Silent City” model of Aizawl. The presentation was well-received by the Award Selection Committee, which recommended Mizoram for the national-level recognition.

The State Government expressed appreciation to the people of Mizoram, departmental staff, Traffic Police, and the Transport Department for their dedicated efforts leading to this achievement.

Sardar@150 Unity March Preparations Underway in Serchhip

In Serchhip District, Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L Khuma convened a meeting with the media to discuss preparations for the Sardar@150 Unity March. The event commemorates the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, widely known as the Iron Man of India and architect of national integration.

The Unity March will be held on 19 November at 1 PM, starting from Government Higher Secondary School, Serchhip, with participation from Superintendent of Police Pu Gavit Gogna and various local groups. The march will conclude at the DC Office complex, followed by a cultural programme at Leisekawt Field. Residents from all communities are invited to join, and a similar event will be organised in Thenzawl Sub Division.

DC Khuma emphasized that the march symbolises unity in India’s diversity and honours Patel’s role in uniting over 500 princely states into the Indian Union. His birth anniversary continues to be observed as National Unity Day.

Champhai District Holds Press Conference on Sardar@150 Unity March

At Champhai, Deputy Commissioner Pu Mohammad Aaquib addressed a press conference at the MJA Press Club regarding the upcoming Sardar@150 Unity March. He highlighted that the event celebrates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary and promotes communal harmony and discipline.

The march is scheduled for 18 November, beginning from the District Hospital and concluding at the Circuit House, with a midway event at the CHANEM Building. Students from various schools will participate, and awareness drives on cleanliness and drug prevention will be organised alongside the march.

2-Dampa (ST) Assembly Constituency Bye-Election Records 56.35% Turnout by 1 PM

At Mamit District, polling for the 2-Dampa (ST) Assembly Constituency bye-election was conducted smoothly across 41 polling stations. As of 1 PM, voter turnout was recorded at 56.35%. The District Election Office monitored 40 polling stations through webcasting, while one station at Zopui faced connectivity issues.

The constituency has a total of 20,790 registered voters, with critical polling stations identified at Silsury I, II, and III. Polling continued peacefully under tight supervision.

New Union Bank of India Branch Opened in Mamit

A new branch of the Union Bank of India was inaugurated in Mamit by Pu Vanlalchhunga, President of Sub-HQ YMA. The event was attended by community leaders and bank officials, including Pu Mukul Rana, HR, RO Jorhat; Pu Thangzason Tombing, Deputy Branch Manager; and Rev. F. Lalrammawia, Counsellor of the Family Guidance and Counselling Centre, who led the prayer ceremony.

Pu Vanlalchhunga described the opening as an important step towards financial growth and inclusion for the district’s residents. The bank will soon add an ATM facility, and additional staff, including cashiers and clerks, will be appointed in the coming months. Plans are also underway to expand ATM services across different localities based on demand.
