Jaisalmer Bus Fire Spurs Seizure of Unsafe Sleeper Buses

Crackdown on Unsafe Sleeper Buses in Jaipur

Jaipur, October 26, 2025 – In a decisive move to prioritize road safety and passenger security, the Transport Department seized two sleeper buses in the Chomu area on October 25, 2025, for serious violations of the Bus Body Code AIS-119/52. The buses, registered as MP44 ZD 9944 and AR11 L 1111, were found operating with hazardous modifications, prompting immediate action following the tragic Jaisalmer bus fire.

Details of the Seizure Operation

Bus MP44 ZD 9944: Major Safety Violations

The first bus, MP44 ZD 9944, was intercepted at around 4 AM and found lacking essential safety features, including a fire suppression system. Shockingly, an LPG gas cylinder-a prohibited flammable item—was discovered onboard, posing a severe risk to passengers. The bus’s structure was illegally modified, with the chassis extended to accommodate 50 sleeper berths arranged in seven rows, exceeding the permitted maximum of 36 berths in six rows. Additionally, the emergency exit was obstructed, and other emergency doors failed to meet regulatory standards.

Passengers were safely transferred to alternative buses arranged by the Chomu District Transport Office and transported to Sindhi Camp Bus Stop. Transport inspectors demonstrated compassion by providing food, water, and other facilities to ensure passenger comfort during the transition.

Bus AR11 L 1111: Swift Action Taken

The second bus, AR11 L 1111, was also seized for similar violations. Passengers were promptly shifted to an alternative bus to continue their journey. The Transport Department’s swift response underscores its commitment to eliminating unauthorized vehicle modifications that endanger public safety.

Transport Department’s Firm Stance

The operation, led by Regional Transport Officer (Jaipur II) Dharmendra Kumar and Chomu District Transport Officer Anoop Saharia, sent a clear message: vehicles compromising public safety will not be tolerated on the roads. The team’s professionalism and empathy during the operation earned praise, as they ensured passengers were treated with respect and provided necessary support. This action reflects the department’s dedication to maintaining a positive public image while enforcing strict compliance with safety regulations.
