Statewide Campaign to Strengthen Road Safety Measures
A 15-day road safety campaign is currently underway across Rajasthan to reduce accidents and reinforce adherence to traffic rules. The initiative, taking place from 4 to 18 November, is aimed at improving public awareness and ensuring safer movement on roads.
Major Enforcement Drive by Police on Day One
According to Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Dr. B. L. Meena, the first day of the campaign saw extensive enforcement across the state. A total of 307 drivers were penalised for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 2,743 were booked for overspeeding. Another 753 motorists faced action for driving in the wrong direction.
Additionally, 178 drivers were penalised for rash driving, 149 vehicles were found operating without reflectors, and 529 vehicles lacked number plates. Awareness activities reached 15,618 road users, supported by the deployment of nearly 4,500 police personnel statewide.
Focus on Lane Discipline on Highways
To strengthen lane driving practices on state highways in alignment with the NH-48 model, 135 police teams carried out public messaging activities. Meanwhile, 143 enforcement teams were stationed to ensure compliance, leading to action against 49 violators.
Transport Department’s Action Over Two Days
The Transport and Road Safety Department also conducted widespread checks on 4 and 5 November. A total of 2,758 challans were issued, including 193 for overloaded goods vehicles and 85 for goods vehicles carrying passengers. Further, 1,819 goods vehicles were penalised for other violations.
In the passenger vehicle category, 42 were found carrying more passengers than permitted, while six buses were operating with luggage placed on the roof. A total of 181 passenger vehicles faced penalties for additional violations.
As part of the campaign’s corrective measures, 83 driving licences were cancelled, seven vehicle permits were revoked, and 116 vehicles were seized.

The effort aims to reduce accident-related fatalities, improve adherence to traffic laws, strengthen road infrastructure and emergency response, and build a culture of responsible road usage throughout the state.
