Pre-Release Consultative Workshop on Base Revision of CPI, GDP, and IIP to be Held in Mumbai

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is organizing the first pre-release consultative workshop on the base revision of the Consumer Price Index, Gross Domestic Product, and Index of Industrial Production on 26th November 2025 in Mumbai.
Objective of the Workshop
The workshop is intended to present the proposed methodological and structural updates in the ongoing base revision of GDP, CPI, and IIP for obtaining feedback and observations from participants. It will also outline the new data sources and technology planned for use in compiling these indices.
Participants and Discussions
The event will gather representatives from the World Bank and other international bodies, the Reserve Bank of India, economists, professionals from financial institutions and the banking sector, subject experts, users of core statistics, and senior officials from the Central and State Governments. Their involvement is expected to support the discussions and help users understand the changes in the revised series.
Inaugural and Technical Sessions
The day will open with an inaugural session featuring remarks by Prof. S. Mahendra Dev, Chairman, EAC-PM, Dr. Poonam Gupta, Deputy Governor, RBI, Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI, and Shri N. K. Santoshi, Director General (Central Statistics). This will be followed by technical sessions on GDP, CPI, and IIP along with open house discussions. A booklet containing brief concept notes on the proposed changes in the base revision of these indices will also be provided to participants. The workshop is intended to encourage transparency, support informed exchanges, and enable broad consultation before the release of the revised GDP, CPI, and IIP series.
