The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune and the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune today formalised a significant academic and research partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at CWPRS. The MoU was signed by Dr. Prabhat Chandra, Director, CWPRS and Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor, DIAT, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.

Scope of Collaboration

This MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration in areas of mutual interest including Advanced Dam Instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Hydraulic Research, Water Quality Assessment, Structural Monitoring, Remote Sensing, Applied Earth Sciences and other allied fields agreed upon jointly.

The partnership provides for joint R&D initiatives, exchange of technical data and expertise ensuring that innovations emerging from the collaboration are effectively leveraged.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Prabhat Chandra, Director, CWPRS, stated: “This MoU strengthens an important partnership that builds upon the complementary strengths of CWPRS and DIAT. Together, we look forward to developing innovative solutions and advancing research that supports the nation’s growing needs in hydraulics, dam instrumentation, monitoring and emerging scientific areas.”

Reflecting on the collaboration, Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor, DIAT, remarked, “Our association with CWPRS will enable meaningful interdisciplinary research and open new avenues for scientific exploration.”

Campus Visit

Following the MoU signing, senior officers from DIAT visited various CWPRS laboratories and physical model facilities to gain insight into the institute’s specialised capabilities in hydraulic modelling, coastal processes, instrumentation and numerical simulation.
