8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 Culminates in Dehradun: A Step Toward a Suposhit Bharat by 2047

 

Introduction

The 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 concluded with a grand ceremony at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Dehradun on October 17, 2025. Smt. Savitri Thakur, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, graced the event as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the vision of a nourished and empowered India by 2047.

A Nationwide Movement for Nutrition

Over 20 Crore Activities Conducted

Smt. Savitri Thakur highlighted that Poshan Maah 2025 saw over 20 crore activities organized nationwide, reinforcing the Jan Andolan for nutrition awareness and behavioral change. She noted, “Nutrition is not just a program; it is our national responsibility and moral commitment to every child and mother in India.”

Inclusive Participation

This year’s campaign was unique for its inclusivity, with men and youth actively participating alongside women. Smt. Thakur emphasized the theme ‘Healthy Women, Strong Families’, stating, “A healthy mother gives birth to a strong generation; when every household’s plate is balanced, the nation becomes stronger.”

Key Achievements Under Mission Poshan 2.0

Digital Transformation with Poshan Tracker

Shri Lav Agarwal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, showcased the impact of Mission Poshan 2.0. The Poshan Tracker App has revolutionized service delivery, with over 13 lakh Anganwadi workers equipped with smartphones for real-time monitoring. Additionally, 13.87 lakh Anganwadi centers now have growth monitoring devices, ensuring timely nutritional support for over 10 crore beneficiaries, including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.

Decline in Malnutrition Indicators

According to NFHS-5 data, India has made significant progress in reducing malnutrition:

  • Stunting decreased from 38.4% to 35.5%.
  • Underweight prevalence dropped from 35.8% to 32.1%.

Shri Agarwal remarked, “These are not just numbers but rays of hope for millions of children transitioning from malnutrition to nutrition.”

Upgrading Anganwadi Centres

Approximately 2 lakh Anganwadi centers are being transformed into Saksham Anganwadi Centres, equipped with safe drinking water, sanitation, early childhood care and education (ECCE) materials, and digital tools. These upgrades lay the foundation for a Suposhit Bharat by 2047.

Union Minister’s Message

In a video message, Union Minister Smt. Annapurna Devi credited the success of Poshan Abhiyaan to millions of Anganwadi workers and field officials. She reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring every child is healthy and every mother empowered, aligning with the vision of a developed India.

Uttarakhand’s Role

Smt. Rekha Arya, Uttarakhand’s Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Development, emphasized that nutrition is the cornerstone of a “Golden India.” She praised the transparency and accountability enabled by the Poshan Tracker. Shri Ganesh Joshi, Uttarakhand’s Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, highlighted the state’s progress in reducing anemia and the role of millets as a “game-changer” for nutrition and local agriculture.

Exhibition and Recognitions

Smt. Savitri Thakur visited an exhibition showcasing millet-based products like Kodou, Kauni, and Jhangora, organized by the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development, Uttarakhand. She interacted with Anganwadi workers and local producers, felicitated Poshan Champions and Mission Shakti Champions, and distributed Mahalaxmi Kits. Additionally, ₹1.56 crore was transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 5,211 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana.

The campaign focused on six themes:

  • Early Childhood Care and Education
  • Nutrition Behavior for Infants and Young Children
  • Men’s Participation
  • Vocal for Local
  • Convergence & Digitalization

These themes not only raised awareness but also set a visionary roadmap for a nourished India by 2047.

Smt. Thakur emphasized that the end of Poshan Maah 2025 marks the beginning of a sustained movement to reach every household. She called for collective action against social issues like child marriage and praised initiatives like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The campaign’s success, driven by Anganwadi workers and community participation, reinforces the goal of a Suposhit Bharat by 2047.
