Overview of Qassim’s Road Infrastructure Growth

The Qassim Region is experiencing significant advancements in its road network, a critical driver of economic, developmental, and tourism growth. Spanning over 6,603 kilometers, the region’s roads connect its governorates and centers, facilitating seamless transportation.

Major Development Projects Underway

Currently, six key road development projects, valued at SAR831 million, are in progress. A flagship initiative is the 161-kilometer link road connecting the Qassim-Madinah Highway to the Ar Rass-Afif Highway. This project enhances access to Makkah, supports southwestern governorates, and improves traffic safety.

The project includes constructing a new 135-kilometer highway and a 26-kilometer dual-carriageway. A standout feature is the 900-meter Wadi ar Rimah Bridge, one of the Kingdom’s longest valley bridges. Additionally, the development incorporates new intersections and rest areas for cars and trucks, improving convenience and safety.

Road Maintenance and Safety Enhancements

In addition to new construction, maintenance efforts are ongoing for vital routes, including the Qassim-Madinah, Qassim-Riyadh, and Qassim-Hail highways. These projects, costing over SAR165 million, focus on improving road quality and ensuring safer travel for users.

Aligning with Saudi Vision 2030

The Roads General Authority (RGA) is dedicated to enhancing the transport sector’s efficiency by prioritizing safety, quality, and traffic flow. These initiatives align with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to rank sixth globally in road quality and reduce the accident fatality rate to below five per 100,000 people by 2030.
