A fresh weather system is set to impact northern parts of the country in the coming days. Meteorological observations indicate an approaching Western Disturbance that will bring rainfall and snowfall to northwest India starting tomorrow. This development follows a relatively quiet period after earlier low pressure systems weakened.

Active Weather Systems Across India

In the past day, up to 8:30 AM today, some areas in Konkan and Goa received heavy showers between 7 and 11 centimetres. Specific locations like Mhasla in Raigad district recorded 11 cm, while Murud in the same district saw 10 cm. Mangaon, Tala, and Dapoli ARG each reported 7 cm of rain.

Currently, a low pressure area persists over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent Myanmar coast. This system is expected to shift north-northwest along the coasts of Myanmar and Bangladesh over the next day. Meanwhile, the low pressure that was over the northeast Arabian Sea yesterday has lost strength this morning. However, its associated circulation continues over the northeast Arabian Sea, adjoining Saurashtra, reaching up to 1.5 kilometres above sea level.

Upper air cyclonic circulations are present over east Bangladesh and nearby areas in lower levels, as well as over northeast Assam and surrounding regions. A trough in middle tropospheric westerlies runs along longitude 60°E north of latitude 32°N, between 3.1 and 5.8 kilometres altitude. Another trough in lower levels extends along longitude 90°E north of latitude 22°N.

Northwest India Prepares for Rain and Snow

The incoming Western Disturbance will trigger thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in west Rajasthan today. On 4th November, similar activity is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. From 4th to 5th November, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall is forecast across the western Himalayan region. Light showers are also expected over Punjab and Haryana during these two days.

Thunderstorm Activity in Other Regions

In east India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph from today until 5th November. West India may see thunderstorm and lightning events over Gujarat region, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathawada between 5th and 7th November.

Northeast areas like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura can expect thunderstorms with lightning today. In south peninsular India, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at several locations are probable over Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Rayalaseema from 4th to 6th November. Coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka will likely see similar weather from 5th to 7th November.

Temperature Trends and Outlook

Minimum temperatures are unlikely to change much over northwest and central India in the next two days. However, a gradual drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected over the following three to four days. In east India, a fall of 2 to 3 degrees is anticipated over the next three days, with little variation afterwards for the subsequent three to four days.

Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore

Sea conditions remain unfavourable in parts of the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen should avoid venturing into the Andaman Sea and adjoining some parts of east-central Bay of Bengal from 3rd to 6th November. The northeast Bay of Bengal also poses risks during the same period. Waters along and off Myanmar and Bangladesh coasts should be avoided on 4th and 6th November. These warnings extend up to 8th November in certain areas.

Delhi NCR Weather Conditions

In the national capital region, temperatures showed no major shifts in the last 24 hours. Daytime highs ranged from 29 to 30 degrees Celsius, while nights were between 13 and 17 degrees. Both maximum and minimum values stayed close to normal levels. Skies remained mainly clear with westerly winds up to 24 kmph yesterday, shifting to southwest up to 12 kmph this morning.

Today, expect mainly clear skies with mist or haze at night. Maximum temperatures will hover between 29 and 31 degrees, near normal. Winds from northwest may reach 20 kmph in the afternoon, calming to under 5 kmph from the north in evening and night.

On 4th November, partly cloudy conditions with morning smog or shallow fog are likely. Highs between 31 and 33 degrees, lows 17 to 19 degrees, with minimums 1 to 3 degrees above normal. Southeasterly winds up to 10 kmph in morning, rising to 15 kmph in afternoon, then dropping below 10 kmph at night.

Similar partly cloudy skies with morning smog or shallow fog continue on 5th November, with temperatures 29 to 31 degrees max and 17 to 19 min. Winds shift to northwest in afternoon up to 18 kmph. By 6th November, skies turn mainly clear again with morning smog or shallow fog, highs 28 to 30 degrees, lows 16 to 18 degrees, winds from west to northwest up to 12 kmph.

Agricultural Guidance for Farmers

In Konkan region, farmers should store harvested rice and finger millet in secure locations. Arrange proper drainage for fields growing rice, finger millet, groundnut, and turmeric to remove excess water.

For livestock, shelter animals during any heavy rain and ensure balanced feeding. Keep feed and fodder in dry, safe storage to avoid damage. Around fish ponds, build outlets with netting to control water levels and stop fish from escaping during overflow.

To protect against thunderstorms and strong winds, provide supports to horticultural crops. Stake vegetable plants and young fruit-bearing trees to prevent them from falling over in gusts.

These updates highlight the varied weather patterns affecting different parts of India. Residents in hilly and urban areas should remain alert for any intense activity, especially where colour-coded warnings indicate higher risk.
