The Ministry of Coal, along with its Public Sector Undertakings, concluded the implementation phase of Special Campaign 5.0 on a commendable note, surpassing the targets set for October 2025. The campaign witnessed a series of impactful initiatives focused on cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and governance reforms.
Exceeded Targets in Key Parameters
From 2nd to 31st October 2025, the Ministry reported notable achievements across multiple fronts. Over 1.28 lakh physical and digital files were reviewed and closed, far beyond initial expectations. Additionally, more than 14,000 tonnes of scrap were disposed of under the campaign. Cleanliness drives covered over 1.12 crore square feet across 1,741 sites.

Innovative Practices and Employee Initiatives
Short Film on Cleanliness at BCCL
Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) created a motivational short film titled “Ek Kadam Badlaav Ki Ore” to highlight the values of cleanliness and teamwork within the coal sector.
Yoga and Meditation Space at CIL
Coal India Limited inaugurated a dedicated Yoga and Meditation Room at its residential complex to encourage a healthier and more mindful work environment.
Women-led Cost & Budget Section at WCL
Western Coalfields Limited introduced a fully women-managed Cost and Budget Section, marking a significant milestone in promoting gender inclusion in financial decision-making.

Creative Recycling Projects
Central Coalfields Limited turned glass waste into a seven-foot sculpture of a coal miner, showcasing sustainable art. Meanwhile, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited organized a “Waste to Art” competition for school students, promoting environmental awareness.
Scientific Mine Closure and Sustainable Frameworks
In an unprecedented move, 11 coal mines were scientifically closed last year following approved plans. The Coal Controller Organisation launched two frameworks, LIVES and ARTHA, to guide sustainable mine closure and mobilize green finance respectively.

Efforts Towards Employee Welfare
Eastern Coalfields Limited established a Post-Retirement Medical Benefit Cell named “Sevarth” for enhanced care and launched a digital bill-tracking portal for claim transparency.
