Overview of the Special Intensive Revision Process

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list has commenced in twelve states and Union Territories, including West Bengal. As part of this month-long exercise, booth-level officers are visiting households to distribute the required forms and collect them after completion. This door-to-door process will continue until December 4, after which the compilation work will progress toward publication stages.

The draft electoral roll is scheduled for release on December 9. The final voter list, after consideration of objections and corrections, will be published on February 7, 2026. Several residents, including elderly citizens such as those in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency of South Kolkata, have expressed satisfaction with the arrangement and indicated readiness to complete the process within the designated time.

Public Awareness and Administrative Monitoring

Awareness efforts are taking place in different regions. In Siliguri, a help centre for citizens was inaugurated in Deshbandhu Para by local representatives. In Bankura, BLOs started early morning visits, and residents have shown active interest in participating. In Murshidabad, where more than 6,000 officers began distributing forms today, district authorities confirmed adherence to Election Commission norms and assured support for security matters if required.

Legal Proceedings and Official Inspections

The ongoing High Court matter concerning SIR was mentioned before a Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court. The Bench noted that there was no immediate urgency for an early hearing, although the case may be taken up on November 10. Meanwhile, a delegation comprising senior officials of the Election Commission will review the process in the border districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar between November 5 and November 8.
