The INTOSAI Development Initiative board has officially renewed the membership of Dr. Hussam Alangari, head of the General Court of Audit (GCA) in Saudi Arabia. His appointment is for another three-year term, starting January 2026. This position holds special significance as it marks the first time an Arab representative has maintained a seat on the board since the initiative’s establishment during the 1986 INTOSAI general meeting in Australia.
Recognition of Saudi Leadership in Auditing
Dr. Alangari acknowledged the country’s leadership for its continued support to the General Court of Audit. He regarded his reappointment as yet another testament to Saudi Arabia’s growing role at both regional and international levels. The Kingdom’s expanding presence is evident through multiple leadership roles it holds across various auditing bodies.
Growing Footprint in International Organizations
Saudi Arabia is set to chair the INTOSAI Governing Board starting 2031, a post confirmed by the organization’s General Assembly. Additionally, the Kingdom has led the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) since 2022 and will continue its presidency for a subsequent term. Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia is also prepared to assume leadership of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) from 2027, marking its expanding engagement in global auditing circles.
