Borouge Launches UAE-Made Medical Grade LDPE
Abu Dhabi-based polymer specialist Borouge today announced the launch of its first locally manufactured healthcare-grade low-density polyethylene. Unveiled during the ADIPEC event, this LDPE solution is designed to meet the strict demands of sterile pharmaceutical packaging.
Strengthening Local Healthcare Supply Chains
The newly introduced product, branded as Bormed™ LE6607-PH, is produced at Borouge’s Ruwais complex. The milestone represents a pivotal step towards reinforcing regional access to critical medical materials. It reflects Borouge’s dedication to local production in alignment with the UAE’s industrial advancement vision under the Make it in the Emirates programme.
Following an earlier milestone this year, where the company rolled out its first Made-in-UAE healthcare polypropylene product, this LDPE launch solidifies Borouge’s expanding role within the healthcare-grade polymer industry, particularly across Middle Eastern and Asian markets.
High-Performance Polymer for Medical Packaging
Bormed™ LE6607-PH is specifically engineered for pharmaceutical and medical applications. It is suitable for packaging formats including blow-fill-seal bottles and ampoules, ensuring high purity and compliance with international standards. The grade is additive-free, minimising extractables and leachables, crucial for maintaining sterility and patient safety. This LDPE has been developed with aseptic production in mind, meeting the rigorous standards of both the EU and US Pharmacopoeia.
Advancing Industrial and Healthcare Goals
According to Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Borouge, the launch not only supports domestic supply chain resilience but also furthers pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity in the region. He highlighted that locally produced polymers meeting global benchmarks enable improved access to quality materials for healthcare providers.
In addition to meeting industry demands, the availability of such materials in the UAE helps shorten lead times for manufacturers, reduces risk, and supports diversification efforts within the national economy.
Supporting UAE’s Leadership in Medical Production
This launch builds on the foundation laid earlier with Borouge’s first healthcare polypropylene product, Bormed™ RG868MO. These developments reflect the company’s commitment to empowering local manufacturers and enhancing the UAE’s capability as a regional hub for advanced healthcare solutions.
With this initiative, Borouge contributes meaningfully to safer, more reliable patient care while enabling industrial growth and boosting the nation’s position in the medical manufacturing space.
