The Government of India has reconstituted the Hindi Advisory Committee under the Department of Commerce, with the decision formally announced in New Delhi on 4 November 2025. The committee has been reformed to advise the department and its associated bodies on strengthening the progressive use of Hindi for official purposes.
Committee Leadership and Non-Official Members
The Minister of Commerce and Industry will serve as the Chairman of the committee, while the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry will serve as the Deputy Chairman.
The non-official members include representatives nominated by various parliamentary and Hindi language bodies. These members include:

Official Members from Various Departments and Export Bodies
The committee includes senior officials such as the Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of the Department of Official Language, Additional Secretaries from the Department of Commerce, and leaders of various export and trade promotion organizations. These include the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Tea Board, Coffee Board, Tobacco Board, Spices Board, Rubber Board, and multiple Special Economic Zone Development Commissioners, among others.
Committee Functions and Tenure
The committee will advise the Department of Commerce and offices under its administration on the effective implementation and enhancement of Hindi usage in official operations. This includes public sector undertakings, boards, and autonomous institutions related to commerce.
The tenure of the committee will be three years from the date of its constitution. Members of Parliament serving on the committee will cease to be members if they no longer hold their parliamentary position. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy will serve for the remaining tenure period.
Travel and Allowance Provisions
Members of Parliament on the committee will receive allowances as per the Member of Parliament (Salary, Allowance and Pension) Act, 1954. Other non-official members will be eligible for allowances as per the guidelines issued by the Department of Official Language.
Committee Headquarters
The headquarters of the Hindi Advisory Committee will be located in New Delhi. Copies of the resolution have been circulated to relevant central government offices, commissions, and state and union territory administrations for implementation and reference.
