The award recognises her leadership and commitment to major UK financial crime prosecutions.
Recognition for Excellence in Tackling Financial Crime
The Tackling Economic Crime Awards celebrate professionals and organisations from law enforcement, academia, the private sector, and public institutions who demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact in addressing economic crime. This year’s ceremony highlighted exceptional contributions to upholding financial integrity in the United Kingdom.
Major Cases Led by Liz Collery
Liz Collery was recognised for her prosecutorial leadership in high-profile cases handled by the SFO, including the Amec Foster Wheeler settlement and the Glencore Energy (UK) Ltd bribery case. Both cases represented landmark moments in the UK’s enforcement of corporate accountability.
Amec Foster Wheeler Settlement
In 2021, Liz led the prosecution against Amec Foster Wheeler, resulting in a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) valued at £103 million. The settlement addressed extensive misuse of corrupt agents in the engineering sector, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to curbing industry-wide misconduct.
Glencore Energy Bribery Conviction
In 2022, Liz co-led the SFO’s investigation into senior-level bribery allegations at global commodity trading company Glencore. The case concluded with the largest penalty ever imposed after a corporate criminal conviction in the UK, underscoring the Serious Fraud Office’s determination to hold powerful corporations accountable.
Leadership and Mentorship at the SFO
Beyond her casework, Liz Collery was commended for mentoring and guiding the next generation of financial crime professionals. She currently leads a team of around 25 investigators and legal practitioners, promoting ethical integrity and strategic excellence in public prosecutions.
Other SFO Nominees and Director’s Remarks
Three additional members of the Serious Fraud Office – Andrew Grieve, Sarah Goudarzi, and Simon Daniel – were also nominated for awards at the TECAs 2025 ceremony, reflecting the agency’s collective dedication to combating complex financial crime.
Nick Ephgrave QPM, Director of the Serious Fraud Office, praised Liz Collery’s achievements, stating that her leadership in major fraud and bribery prosecutions demonstrates the determination and integrity vital to the agency’s mission.
