New Delhi, November 11, 2025: Operation Sindoor demonstrates the evolving landscape of modern warfare, where precision strike capabilities, network-centric operations, digitised intelligence, and multi-domain tactics are deployed effectively within compressed timeframes, said Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan. He delivered this insight during his special address on the ‘Impact of Technology on Modern Warfare’ at the Delhi Defence Dialogue in New Delhi.
Technological Superiority as a Battlefield Decider
General Chauhan highlighted that military success increasingly hinges on technological leadership. He stressed that while the fundamentals of warfare—securing victory—remain unchanged, forces that excel in technological innovation are likely to prevail. Rapid advancements in emerging technologies, evolving doctrines, and shifting geopolitical dynamics are reshaping modern warfare, he added.
Delhi Defence Dialogue 2025
The two-day dialogue, organised by the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), was inaugurated by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh. The event focused on ‘Harnessing New Age Technology for Defence Capability Development’ and brought together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and academia to discuss India’s defence technology trajectory.
Insights from MP-IDSA
In his welcome address, Director General of MP-IDSA, Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, noted the event’s special significance, coinciding with the Institute’s 60th Foundation Day. He highlighted the transformative role of technology in modern defence, noting that armed forces worldwide are transitioning from industrial-era methods to information and cyber-age capabilities.
Ambassador Chinoy emphasised emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Quantum Physics, as key determinants in modern warfare. He also stressed the need for balancing foreign technology acquisition with indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbharta policy.
Future of Defence Technology in India
The dialogue is expected to facilitate data-driven defence systems and support future technological advancements in India’s security and defence sector. Discussions will guide strategies for integrating new-age technologies into operational capabilities, ensuring the Armed Forces remain at the forefront of modern warfare innovation.
