Vice-President Briefed on MoSPI and NITI Aayog Initiatives

Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation; Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Planning; and Minister of State for Culture, along with Shri B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog; Dr Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI); and other senior officials, called on the Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, at Parliament House today.

Overview of NITI Aayog Initiatives

During the meeting, the Vice-President was briefed on the functioning, key initiatives, and upcoming plans of NITI Aayog, including an overview of the Vision and Strategic Roadmap for Viksit Bharat@2047.

The Vice-President acknowledged NITI Aayog’s engagement with Central Ministries and State Governments in strengthening policy frameworks, programme design, and implementation across sectors. He noted the institution’s flagship initiatives, including the Aspirational Districts Programme.

National Statistical System of MoSPI

The Vice-President received a briefing on the structure and functioning of the National Statistical System under MoSPI, covering key processes such as data collection, compilation, and the release of national indicators, including GDP aggregates, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan recognized MoSPI’s efforts in maintaining robust standards and best practices in the generation and communication of official statistics. He emphasized the critical role of high-quality, credible, and timely data in supporting effective policy formulation, administrative efficiency, and national development. The Vice-President highlighted the importance of strategic planning and data-driven decision-making in achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
