Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Addresses UNIDO Conference on Sustainable Development

Riyadh. Somalia’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, stated that the country is at a critical stage in its development, making gradual progress toward an economy centered on sustainable and inclusive manufacturing.

Speaking at the 21st session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) General Conference in Riyadh, he highlighted the importance of investment and international partnerships in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

He pointed out that Somalia has extensive marine resources and fertile agricultural lands, which provide a solid basis for national development. Nevertheless, the country remains among the least developed nations and faces challenges related to limited manufacturing capacity and infrastructure.

He also outlined efforts to advance the renewable energy sector, focusing on the expansion of solar energy systems and the adoption of innovative clean energy solutions as part of the transition to green energy.
