Chouhan Urges States on Watershed Mahotsav Rollout

Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a video conference on 25th November 2025 with State Ministers of Nodal Departments implementing the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY) and Rural Development Ministers from various states.

During the conference, the Minister urged state Ministers to support the rollout of ‘Watershed Mahotsav’ in their respective states to promote public awareness and enhance participation in watershed development initiatives under WDC-PMKSY. The following activities were agreed upon for implementation:

Planned Activities under Watershed Mahotsav

  • Conduct Bhoomipoojan of new works and Lokarpan of completed water harvesting structures such as check dams, village ponds, and farm ponds.
  • Reboot the Janbhagidari Cup 2026 with participation from Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, local public representatives, youth, and local NGOs.
  • Implement Mission Watershed Punarutthan for maintenance and repair of water harvesting structures constructed under WDC-PMKSY 1.0 in convergence with MGNREGS.
  • Carry out plantation and Shramdaan activities.
  • Launch a social media competition to increase awareness of watershed initiatives and their benefits.
  • Engage Watershed Margadarshaks who were honored during the previous Watershed Yatra.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State Dr. Chandrasekar Pemmasani, along with senior officials from the Department of Land Resources, Rural Development, Agriculture, Watershed Development, Forest, and Environment departments across the states.
