President Attends Inaugural Session of Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the opening session of the third edition of the Indian Army’s seminar Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi on November 28, 2025.

Remarks on National Security and Operation Sindoor

In her address, the President said the Indian Armed Forces have demonstrated professionalism and dedication in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. She stated that the forces have shown adaptability and determination during conventional, counter-insurgency and humanitarian challenges. She noted that the recent success of Operation Sindoor represents a defining moment in India’s counter-terror and deterrence strategy. She added that the operation highlighted India’s military capability and its resolve to act with responsibility in the pursuit of peace. She also said the defence forces continue to support national development through contributions in infrastructure, connectivity, tourism and education in border areas.

Observations on Global Geopolitics

The President said the geopolitical environment is evolving rapidly, marked by competing power centres, technological shifts and changing alliances. She highlighted that new areas of competition such as cyber, space, information and cognitive warfare are narrowing the boundaries between peace and conflict. She stated that India, guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, has demonstrated that strategic autonomy aligns with global responsibility. She added that India’s diplomacy, economy and armed forces together reflect a nation that seeks peace while remaining prepared to protect its borders and citizens with strength and conviction.

Comments on Military Transformation

The President expressed appreciation for the Army’s efforts to transform itself through measurable outcomes under the Decade of Transformation. She said the Army is restructuring, revising doctrines and redefining capabilities to remain prepared across all domains. She expressed confidence that these reforms will contribute to India’s aim of becoming self-reliant.

Focus on Youth and Inclusion

The President said the Army is investing in youth and human capital by encouraging patriotism through education, NCC expansion and sports. She underlined that the growing involvement of young women officers and soldiers in various roles would strengthen the spirit of inclusion. She added that their participation would motivate more young women to join the Army and pursue other professions.

The President said she is confident that the discussions and outcomes of Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025 will offer valuable guidance to policymakers in shaping future national policy. She also expressed confidence that the armed forces will continue to pursue excellence and remain committed to contributing to the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
