The World Meteorological Organization has begun a digital transformation designed to enhance how its worldwide network collaborates, exchanges knowledge and monitors progress across ongoing programmes. The move focuses on building a more integrated approach to communication, resource-sharing and performance tracking within the WMO Community.
What Will Change
The transformation will expand the WMO Community Platform into a connected suite of tools that help streamline information flow across various organizational activities. These tools are expected to improve management of shared documents, technical guidance, expert contacts and performance indicators.
Key Components of the New Platform
Contacts Directory
A centralized web-based directory will provide updated information on registered experts and institutions within the WMO network. It will help maintain accuracy in roles and contact details. This feature is planned for launch in November 2025.
Collaboration Hub
Secure shared workspaces will replace older systems used for document coordination within technical and working structures. This platform will also be introduced in November 2025.
Knowledge Hub
A public-facing online portal will give access to technical resources, announcements and event information. It is intended to support learning and operational readiness across regions. The launch is also scheduled for November 2025.
Monitoring Hub
The Monitoring Hub will provide dashboards that show progress in programme implementation and organizational performance. This tool is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2026.
How Members and Partners Benefit
The new tools are designed to support better coordination in Earth system monitoring, strengthen capacity development initiatives and improve service delivery efforts across regional and international levels. They will also help accelerate collaboration for the global Early Warnings for All approach.
Who is Leading the Initiative
The Planning, Foresight and Performance Office is guiding the process. It is working closely with the Governing Bodies Secretariat, the Digital and Technology Services Section, technical departments, Regional Offices and the wider WMO Community.
