Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah paid homage to Ahom General Lachit Barphukan on his Jayanti, recalling his role in safeguarding Assam and the Northeast. Shah described Barphukan as one of the notable warriors in the region’s history.

Amit Shah highlighted the general’s dedication, courage, and military leadership, noting that these qualities helped defend Assam and the broader Northeast from Mughal advances. He added that Barphukan’s contributions also helped preserve the cultural heritage of the region.
